J & J OSTROŽOVIČ · MAKOVISKO VINEYARD · 2015
Character born in an oak barrel.
Walnuts, dried citrus and a delicate hint of ginger. Tokaj Dry Samorodné 2015 invites you to discover a wine shaped by traditional winemaking and slow maturation.
This vintage rewards attention at every stage of tasting. Take in the aroma, taste, and let the sip linger. Notice how its individual notes follow one another.
AS IT GREW
What does Samorodné mean?
The name reflects the way the grapes are harvested. For Samorodné, whole bunches are picked together with any cibéby — shrivelled berries affected by noble rot, Botrytis cinerea. The grapes are gathered as they grew naturally.
The cibéby are not selected individually from the bunches, as they are for Tokaj selections. Samorodné has its own place in Tokaj tradition and is made in both dry and sweet styles.
Honey on the nose. Dry on the palate.
Acacia honey is part of this wine’s aromatic character. The 2015 vintage is dry, with 3.2 g/l of natural residual sugar. The result is a dry wine with the aromatic richness of traditional Tokaj.

OAK, TUFF AND TIME
When maturation shapes a wine’s signature.
This vintage was made from traditional Tokaj grape varieties using the classic oxidative method. Slow maturation in oak barrels in a tuff cellar helped shape its distinctive expression.
In traditional Tokaj winemaking, exposure to oxygen is part of production and maturation. It contributes to the characteristic bread-like note known locally as ‘chlebovinka’.
Beneath Slovak Tokaj, wine has a home.
The cellars of J & J Ostrožovič are carved into volcanic tuff beneath the Tokaj House, at a depth of around 13 metres. Their passages house wooden barrels and provide a setting for the slow maturation of Tokaj wines.
