Behind every bottle is the story of Slovak Tokaj and a family that has been making wine here with heart since 1990.
Jarka and Jaro Ostrožovič have been building their family winery in Veľká Tŕňa since 1990. Their wines bring together the distinctive character of Slovak Tokaj, experience gained in the vineyards and the belief that good wine begins with carefully tended grapes.
Their own vineyards. Their own signature.
Across approximately 58 hectares of their own productive vineyards, they grow the Tokaj varieties Furmint, Lipovina and Yellow Muscat. Careful vineyard management and respect for nature are central to their work and reflected in the character of their wines.
Tokaj tradition. The courage to explore.
Traditional Tokaj selection wines mature in the winery’s tuff cellars. Alongside them, fresh varietal wines are made using modern methods, including controlled fermentation.
In 1993, the Ostrožovič family became the first to introduce wines made separately from individual Tokaj grape varieties using reductive winemaking methods to the Slovak market.
Recognition far beyond Tokaj.
J & J Ostrožovič wines receive awards at competitions in Slovakia and around the world. Three of their wines have been ranked among the world’s 1,000 best wines.
The consistently high quality of their wines has also been recognised by the Slovak Association of Vinegrowers and Winemakers, which awarded the winery the title Vinárska extratrieda, a distinction recognising excellence in winemaking.
